About us
Chan Meditation Centre (CMC) is a community learning and living the Buddha's Teachings through the tradition of Chan Buddhism, as established by the late Chan Master Sheng Yen.
Chan is rooted in the Chinese Buddhist tradition and has been practiced for over 2,500 years. The lineage of Chan has been handed down through India, China, Korea and Japan and has lasted in an unbroken transmission dating back to the time of the Historical Shakyamuni Buddha. Our practice utilises the philosophies of several traditions, particularly that of the Lin-ji and Chao-dong Schools, all of which flourished in China’s Peak or Golden Age of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty. Chan practice should be viewed as a “skilful means” to help sentient beings realise their enlightened nature, not as a form of worship or mysticism.
We welcome you to practice Chan meditation together with us amidst all activities of daily life; cultivating mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion.
